The Best Exercise for Your Dog is…A Leash!

Dogs are happier and feel better when they get the right amount of exercise, but not all dogs do well on a leash. The benefits of walking your dog are extensive.  Walking can reduce boredom, it gets you both out of the house in fresh air, and is also a way to help you and your dog bond.  A 30-minute walk can also help reduce or eliminate some of your pet’s unhealthy behaviors such as chewing, digging or scratching. Additionally, walking is emotionally healthy for your dog as it helps to reduce hyperactivity and excitability.

Dogs don’t self entertain unless playing with a toy or chewing on a chew. Walking gets your dog out of the house to sniff and see the world. When confined to the house all day dogs get bored. Our dogs are dependent on us to take them out to explore the sights, smells and sounds of the world. Regular walks together will help your dog stay in shape both physically and mentally – and its good exercise for you too!

Instead of considering walking your dog as a chore, approach your daily dog walk as a bonding time with your dog. This bond helps build confidence and trust between you and your dog and there is nothing more special than the bond between you and your dog.

And, you can help raise money for rescue just by walking your dog!  The APP WoofTrax allows you to support your favorite animal organization just by walking your dog. Every Walk For A Dog counts – whether it’s a walk around the neighborhood or a long hike. Plus you can customize your dog’s profile – it’s super easy to use so grab your leash and raise money for rescue groups! I support our local animal shelter, Saving Our Companion Animals Fort Bend County/ SOCA-FBC when walking my dogs Sadie Pearl, Patty Cake and Quincy.
