How to properly meet other dogs on a leash

Did you know your dog has a strong sense of personal space? Face-to-face sniffing (especially on a leash) is generally discouraged because it may lead to aggressive encounters. It is your job as their handler to not go up directly to another dog on a leash and let them meet face to face. So, let’s talk about how to introduce your dog to another dog. Dogs prefer to approach each other from side to side. This is considered less threatening, less confrontational and more relaxing. Butt sniffing is even better to ensure a reduction in conflicts. If you avoid face-to-face interactions, it may help your dog relax – remember, side-to-side is best!
